Rebecca Perfect Masterclass

5/1/2018

Rebecca Perfect is a make up artist from Norfolk specialising in the Instagram glam make up. This trend has reached a phenomenal level of popularity, particularly amongst younger people. It’s a hot topic in the industry at the moment and as a make up artist, although it’s not something I have ever really done, I appreciate the style and the skill that is needed to create it. Because of the rise in popularity for this kind of make up, I think it will be something I may be asked for in the future, particularly for prom and occasion make up. Rebecca however, specialises in and is creating this look regularly in her business and not just ‘for the gram.’ I was excited to learn from her all about the products she recommends the the techniques she uses to create her glam looks.
Picture
The masterclass took place at Glambox, Norwich. I’d never been here before but it was an amazing salon and the perfect location for a masterclass all about glam! I met up with ‘Ginger Natalie’ (do go and check out her fabulous blog) and we were greeted on arrival at Glambox, with prosecco, cupcakes and a goody bag.
Now, It’s no secret that I love a goody bag and this was a great one. It had a notepad and pen to take notes with as Rebecca worked (it also came in handy to write down a shopping list of products she recommended). There was a voucher for money off a one to one training session with Rebecca, a pair of lashes by Mollie, a Peaches and cream lip gloss, a loose glitter and some gorgeous pigments.
Picture
Picture
The class started off with Rebecca carving out the brow. She used the P.Louise base for this and explained what she was doing as she was doing it. Rebecca took a lot of time to carve out and fill in the brows as this is such a key element of this type of make up and therefore important to get it right. Once the brow was filled in and the base was laid, Rebecca went on to create a soft smokey eye using products from MAC, llamasque, Too Faced and finished the eyes with lashes from Mollie.
Picture
For the base Rebecca used a mix of products. She creates her own flawless base by prepping the skin with Mac prime and fix and mixing a camouflage make up with a shade of MAC studio fix foundation. She used the same MAC product she used on the eye, to add shade in the desired areas and highlighted with the amazing ‘shine bright’ highlighter from Doll Beauty, (which went straight on my shopping list along with the Illamasque white blush and P.Louise base and pallete)! On the lips she used a MAC lip liner in Spice and filled in with a gloss from Peaches and Cream, in shade ‘Fudge’, which we also received in our goody bags. The finished look (pictured below) was absolutely flawless. The coverage was full and the contour and highlight added depth and light so it didn’t look flat.
Picture
I had a great time at the masterclass and I’m feeling inspired to create my own version of the soft glam that Rebecca taught us, using the products from the goody bag and from the shopping list I created (thanks Rebecca)!
Picture
I would highly recommend Rebecca’s masterclass to anyone that loves this type of look or wants to know more about it. If you are a make up artist yourself or you just love make up and and creating looks on yourself and your friends, then you would really enjoy this Masterclass. If you’d rather not attend a class then Rebecca offers one to one training aswell.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Rebecca for hosting such a fab night and also to Rebecca’s mum for the delicious cupcakes (make up and cupcakes, win and win)!

Label.M conditioning treatment

4/22/2018

Last summer I decided to have my hair coloured red. It never really went red, more of a pinky, purple and it took three lots of bleaching and a lot of toner to get it out!
My hair is definitely feeling the consequences of bleach, so I decided to have a treatment to get some hydration back into it.
I booked in with LJ for my appointment at ‘The Salon’ in Harleston and we discussed my hair care needs. My hair was looking dull and felt really dry so she decided to use the award winning, label.m ‘Intensive Mask’ on my hair.
The mask, combines ingredients such as bran, cottonseeds, shea butter and cupuau to hi-drench and restore the hair as well as shielding it from heat damage and UV rays.
Picture
LJ washed my hair with the Honey and Oat shampoo and conditioner and then began the treatment. She applied the mask through my hair, gave my scalp a massage and then left it in for a few minutes to work it’s magic.
Picture
Picture
I was delighted with the results. My hair felt softer, smoother and lighter. I had lots of comments about how shiny it looked too which was great. I had the shiny song from Moana in my head for days, (if you haven’t heard it click the link, it’s a good’un).
Picture
Once the treatment was removed, the label.m protein spray and volume mousse were applied to my wet hair. Jess then blow dried my hair and finished with the label.m shine mist (which I love).
If you need some hydration back in you hair, you’ve bleached it, over heated it or it just feels dry from this sudden heat wave, then i’d highly recommend calling LJ on 01379 854 130 to book your appointment for the intense conditioning treatment.
Even if your hair doesn’t ‘need’ it... I really believe it is important to take some time out for yourself. For me, a trip to the The Salon isn’t just about having my hair done. It’s seeing friendly faces, catching up with friends, having a hot cup of coffee and reading a magazine cover to cover. And, if you’re lucky, there may even be a marshmallow in the sweetie jar!

Lush Lip Scrub Review

3/17/2018

Hello and welcome to my first ever product review post.
I wanted my first review to be something fun, affordable and cruelty free, as well as a top quality product, that actually works. So, i’ve gone with my heart and have decided to use one of my absolute favourite products, Lip scrubs from LUSH. I feel that the lip scrubs do all of the above and although many of you will already be familiar with them, if anyone isn’t and then discovers it because of this post, I will be so happy to have spread the lush love!
Picture
Picture
LUSH is a shop I go into for a treat. Sometimes for me, usually for someone else (my two boys love a LUSH bath bomb). LUSH has been in Norwich for over a decade and I don’t recall too many times when I’ve been into the city and not gone in or walked past and taken in a big whiff of... well... lushness!
Picture
Picture
The pot I first purchased was 'The Kiss'. It contains natural ingredients including sugar, safflower oil, salt, and cocoa butter,
It has a sweet sherbet taste to it with a bit of a zing, (think love heart sweets) and within the scrub there are tiny little confetti hearts that melt when you lick them off (I know, so cute)! Basically, It’s a lot of love, in a little pot and I can’t get enough of it, or tell enough people about it! I was impressed, not only by the application and removal technique, (who wouldn't be) but also the feeling of my lips afterwards as it exfoliated them, leaving them smooth and soft.
Picture
Other flavours of this little pot of loveliness include, mint chocolate, bubble gum, honey, popcorn and mint julep. I don't have them all, (yet) but am well on the way! I use mint chocolate in my bridal kit and it’s often greeted with ooos and aaahs from the bride and her bridesmaids, who always seem to enjoy using it as much as I do.
The lip scrub are perfect for applying in the morning and before applying lipstick. They leave no residue after exfoliating the lips, so they are soft, smooth and well prepared for long wear lipstick application. I don’t tend to use them in my nighttime routine because they do feel like a sweet treat and I don’t want that after I’ve brushed my teeth for the night. However, for first thing in the morning, after you’ve brushed your teeth, (but before you put on your lippie) they are perfect!
So, if you suffer with dry lips, want to buy a gift for someone or simply treat yourself, then the lip scrubs by LUSH are perfect.
✔️Affordable
✔️Cruelty free
✔️Fun
✔️Effective
The only issue you will have is trying to choose between all the different flavours!

Amore Local

Love was in the air (I wanted to write hair) at ‘The Salon’ in Harleston last month with the ‘Amore Locale’ event.
The evening was organised by LJ and the whole team came together to put on a fabulous evening full of bubbles, sparkles, sweet treats, gorgeous gifts, hand massages and hair demos.
Picture
I was there with my glitter bar and spent the evening offering the guests some sparkle. The glitter bar is such a fun edition to any event- private parties, corporate functions, hen dos, weddings, charity evenings etc glitter just seems to make everyone so happy!
Picture
Daisy and Co were there with some gorgeous love inspired gifts. I like daisy and Co, it’s my go to place to buy gift. They have a large range of items in store, including jewelry, homeware, cards, clothes, gifts and (my favourite) candles.
Picture
Adnams provided the champagne which LJ then added some rose gold shimmer to it from Popaball.
The Rustic catering company made some sweet canapés, which not only looked amazing, but tasted ridiculously delicious too!
Picture
Complimentary hand massages were given by ‘Beauty by Chantelle’ and the stylists were demonstrating blow dries and hair ups, using a range of Label M products, which were also available to buy on the night.
Picture
Katherine from Fig and Roses made a really pretty frame for the photo booth and LJ collected a load of props to use with it. This was a lot of fun!
Picture
Picture
It was a fabulous evening full of shimmer and sparkle and hair and beauty. The girls created some lovely hair up styles and the models were fantastic. We drank all the bubbles and ate almost all the food. Both the guests and floor were covered in glitter (which is always the sign of a good night)!
It was so lovely to collaborate with other local businesses and I hope it was the first on many events we can do together in the town.

COS   Tribute Fashion Shoot

I love collaborating. From my experience, when people are spending time doing what they love, in that moment, they are passionate, enthusiastic and full of positivity.
In my line of work, I’m usually collaborating with creatives. I find it inspiring and energising to be around other creative people, because when we are together, we share ideas and they grow organically into more creative thought processes, leading to more collaboration and more chances to create.

This blog is about a recent collaboration with a group of talented students from Norwich University of Arts, NUA. The shoot was for a tribute fashion project, produced and directed by Marta Zaremba, a 2nd year Fashion Communication student at the University. Marta contacted me with the mood boards she had created for the shoot and asked if I would do the hair and make up for it. I loved the mood boards and after researching the COS style, i was really keen to be a part of it.
In case you haven't heard of it, COS, (Collection of style) is a brand from the Swedish company H&M. Think designer wear at a more affordable price, clean lines, solid colours, timeless and understated fashion.

"COS offers reinvented classics and wardrobe essentials for women, men and children. Made to be worn beyond the season, the collections merge lasting quality with timeless design; clean silhouettes, innovative techniques and functional details inspired by art, technology and architecture. Committed to supporting the world of art and design through collaboration, COS partners with established and emerging artists, studios and galleries all over the world, creating unique brand projects alongside the seasonal fashion collections."

Quote from: about.hm.com
Marta sent a clear and detailed schedule for the day so I knew exact what I was doing and when. This level of organisation by Marta was extremely professional and I couldn’t have asked for more from a creative director.
There were two models for the shoot, Liza and Amy and each of them had two looks. It’s great when a client knows exactly what they want as it gives me something to focus on and it’s always rewarding to bring someone’s vision to life. Marta gave me a clear brief for the make up.
Look one: fresh faced, radiant skin, natural highlight, textured brows, soft matt eyeshadow and nude lips.
Look two: skin glowing, defined features, contoured cheekbones, natural but visible highlight, thick brows, add warmth to the eye and a deeper shade of lipstick. The picture above is look two on both models and below is look one on each model.
Above: Oli photographing Amy and Liza in the East Gallery
Photographing the shoot was Oli Stockwell, a 3rd year photography student. Oli was assisted on the day by Jordan Hudson, another 3rd year student. As soon as I saw Oli’s work on Instagram, I was excited to be working with him. His portraits are incredible. The light, colours and composition in his work give each image a narrative and I love that.

Isaac Hargreaves, a 3rd year photography and film student was there to film for Marta's campaign. I had not worked with a videographer in such close proximity before and it was really fascinating to watch Isaac work. I didn't speak to him much on the day, because he was fully engrossed with filming and i didn't want to disturb him. It was really fascinating to watch him work and direct the models. He could obviously ‘see’ the finished film or part of the film he wanted to create with each take and was so intrigued to see the end result of his creative process, under Marta's direction. You can see the finished campaign film below and more of Isaac's work here.
One of my favourite things about collaborating is where it can take you afterwards. Since we did the shoot, Marta has modeled for me for some make up training I and have managed to talk Isaac into filming for the living art show, a body painting event at the Maui Waui festival in Suffolk, later this year.
After meeting Jordan at the shoot and researching his work in more depth, I came across this collection of work. It’s a piece that you can’t help but be intrigued by. The pictures speak to you, the words touch you and you are left contemplating your own philosophy on life.
Working with this talented group of creatives was a great experience. I am delighted to have been a part of it and flattered to have been asked by Marta to join her and the others for the shoot.
I want to take this opportunity to wish Marta the best of luck for this assignment. She picked a talented team of people to work with and gave them everything they needed to complete their part of the collaboration effectively.

Urban Jungle Shoot

11/8/2017

I recently had the pleasure of working with the super talented Hannah Gasparutti again for another fashion photography shoot. The shoot took place at Urban Jungle which I was really exited about after hearing nothing but great things about it. We set up base in the Cafe Jungle, which is just as unique as it is beautiful. Plants of all shapes and sizes fill the cafe from floor to ceiling and situated within them in various locations are both tables and chairs and comfy sofas covered in cushions and throws for ultimate relaxation. A pond, filled with Koi Carp takes the cafe jungle experience to a whole other level and there is even a wooden bridge that runs over it so you can stop to see the fish a little more close up. My favourite thing about it was all the Cactus plants. I. Love. Cacti. They had so many, from teeny tiny ones indoors to an area full of them outside, some of which were taller than me. If you want a cactus, (and let's face it, who wouldn't) Urban Jungle is the place to go.

We set up in a corner of the cafe and Hannah got started on some test shots while I began the make up. Hannah had sent me a mood board prior to the shoot so I knew the kind of looks she wanted to create for each of the two models.
Picture
Picture
Hannah did a few shots of both the models indoors to begin with and then we went outside to check out various locations to shoot in. Of course, the cactus area was a must, so Hannah got shots of both girls in there and we then moved deeper into the jungle and found an area full of bamboo trees, which we got set up in for more shots of both the models. I'm really excited to see the images from in there, as we were literally squeezed right into a bunch of bamboo trees.

To finish, the two models posed together in another area. There were so many unique areas within the location so we will definitely go back again for another shoot and explore some more. It would be amazing to go back in each season to take shots as the surroundings change with the naturally changing environment.

The make up for the two models was really different, which was great fun for me. Look one was all about warmth and glow, which, I created using the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow. I warmed the cheeks with powder blush in shade, 'Sweet Mandarin' by Laura Mercier.
I love to create textured brows and Emma had perfects brows for this... I may have spent the most time on them, brushing them over with Charlotte Tilbury, Legendary Brows in 'Super Model' and filling in some areas with Brow Spectrum Palette by Zoeva.  For colour on the eyes, I used the 'Day to Night' Eye shadow Palette by Ardere, (if you don't have this, you need it. Buy it now. You will love it and never be without it in your kit again)! I finished the eyes with a set of dramatic false lashes.
For the lips I used a nude brown shade from the Bobbi Brown BBU Pro Lip Palette and finished with MUA Luxe Metallic Liquid lips, in 'Glint'
Picture
Picture
For the second look I used the Mehron Pro-HD Foundation Contour and added dimension with the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow, (it's my favourite).
For the eyes I used the Kat Von D Shade & Light Eyeshadow Palette with Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise in 'Bette' on the lid. To create the white lashes and brows, I covered a disposable mascara wand with NYX White Liquid Eyeliner and brushed over the top and bottom lashes and along the brows. I lined the water line with NYX Slide On Pencil  in 'Pure White'.
The eyes were really dramatic so we kept the lips simple with a nude shade, again, from the Bobbi Brown Lip Palette and finished with a Rimmel Oh my Gloss in 'Clear'

Huge thank you to Urban Jungle for having us. To Hannah for asking me to collaborate again, to Sophie Lovegrove for styling and to George Hadingham and Emma Banister for modelling. I can't wait to see the images and share them with you too.
